The Catholic Archbishop emeritus of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, was the Archbishop of Abuja (Fr. Ken’s home diocese) until 2019 when he retired as Archbishop. He remains one of Africa’s high-ranking Cardinals and a member of the Vatical dicasteries for the Doctrine of the Faith and Divine Worship. Well-known for his work on peace-building and inter-religious dialogue, the Cardinal is a member of Nigeria’s National Peace Committee, and continues to be an active voice in the Nigerian/African religious and political contexts.
